Suicide Within the Context of Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence

What is it all about?

This course aims to strengthen learners knowledge and increase their practical skills to positively respond to survivors of VAWDASV who themselves may be displaying suicide behaviour* and/or been exposed to/affected by threats of harm and suicide. The purpose of the unit is to ensure the needs of survivors of VAWDASV are more widely understood in the context of suicide prevention, and that those in a position where they are required to respond, or signpost to appropriate sources of help and support, feel more confident, and capable of responding to presenting needs. The training includes the importance of evidence-based methods of support, such as person-centred working, trauma-informed approaches and compassionate responses. * Suicide behaviour encompasses all thoughts and actions related to suicide.
