Understanding Vicarious Trauma

What is it all about?

Vicarious Trauma affects a large number of professionals who are immersed in work with vulnerable or traumatised individuals in the UK. It often involves hearing or reading accounts from individuals about something very bad happening in their life. Overtime, hearing accounts of violence and abuse can have a potentially detrimental impact on the psychological well-being of professionals. This training is aimed at helping professionals understand the impact of vicarious trauma so that they can care for themselves and other staff.
